Sarens, world leader in freight transport and heavy lifting, has been involved in a project of national importance in Uzbekistan, transporting goods from the port of KCOI (in the Mangistau region) to Tashkent (Uzbekistan). The national importance of this project lies in the fact that the transported material is intended to be used for the natural gas conversion power plant, as Uzbekistan has 40% of the natural gas reserves in Central Asia, and Uzbekistan is therefore considered a key partner in fuel cooperation in the region.

The route to be travelled to carry out the work was over 2,000 kilometers, passing through arid, desert-like terrain and difficult access. In addition, the arrival city, Tashkent, is located on an active tectonic zone that regularly experiences many earthquakes, meaning that the transport activities such as this could be affected, and certain precautionary measures had to be taken in the event of such situations.

The route itself was very difficult, as it had sharp bends, bridges that could not support the weight of the trucks used for transportation, steep ascents and descents, and steep ascents. Apart from geographical obstacles the team had to plan according to the country’s transport laws, which made Sarens adapt its methodology and logistics so that the work could be carried out as efficiently as possible.

The goods to be transported consisted of materials and machinery, resulting in totaling over 600 tonnes in a total of 21 heavy components which, due to their size, were OOG (Out of Gauge), even with a six-sided shipping container the goods would still protrude from the sides.

To transport these 21 components, Sarens deployed its fleet of all types of heavy machinery, including 20 and 10-axle trucks, which was the only way to efficiently transport this cargo.

In the end, the transport was successfully completed, thanks to Sarens‘ extensive experience in large projects such as this.
