The Red Dot Awards jury annually acclaims the best products of the year. In the ‘Cars and Motorcycles’ category, the reinterpretation of the Bulli icon, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new Multivan, received the cherished ‘Red Dot: Best of the Best’ award.
With the world premiere of the new Multivan, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has ushered in a new era for mobility and the brand, transferring in this way the typical characteristics – of being functional and flexible, comfortable and spacious, modern and innovative – into the future. Albert Kirzinger, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Head Designer, is delighted to receive the award: “We are particularly proud to have won one of the world’s most prestigious design prizes, the Red Dot Design Award, just in time for the world premiere. Thank you to everybody who made it possible.”
The Red Dot Awards rate as one of the most highly renowned design competitions in the world. This year, companies from 60 nations submitted more than 7,800 products as competition entries. Among the factors rated by the jury made up of 50 international experts were degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, ecological compatibility, quality and the products’ symbolic and emotional aspects.
“The new Multivan thrilled us with its innovative design of the interior, which enables adaptation to all sorts of different usage scenarios and, with its level floor and many carefully designed details, conveys a totally new sense of space. The styling also impressively combines design elements typical of the Bulli with a contemporary, charming appearance that has satisfyingly balanced proportions and will continue to look modern for many years to come,” said the jury.
