new Crafter
Start of ordering in Germany: The Volkswagen Crafter receives an extensive technical update comprising a new cockpit landscape and new assist systems.

Pre-sales of the new Crafter start in Germany, and the first vehicles of the new model will be in dealerships from the summer. For the launch, two TDI engines in combination with a six-speed manual gearbox are already available in numerous body variants. Despite more comprehensive safety equipment and more convenience features that make everyday work in the new Crafter easier, the prices remain at the level of the predecessor model.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV) is upgrading its large van – the Crafter. The successful product line has received a comprehensive technical update. This includes a new infotainment system with free-standing display as well as the Digital Cockpit combined with a standard-equipment multifunction steering wheel. It offers intuitive usability, state-of-the-art apps and a high degree of customisation, and optionally features the digital IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. There are also several new electronic controls, such as the electronic parking brake with Auto Hold function and the selector switch for the optional 8-speed automatic gearbox, the controls for the light functions, the button panels in the centre console area and all vents.
The spectrum of new standard and optional assist systems raises the Crafter product line to a new level. Now always on board as standard are Front Assist (Autonomous Emergency Braking including cyclist and pedestrian detection), Lane Assist (lane keeping system), Dynamic Road Sign Display, a speed limiter and acoustic Park Distance Control for the rear area. Travel Assist will be offered as an option for the Crafter for the first time. This system combines Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) for automatic acceleration and braking and Lane Assist. This increases convenience and safety, especially on long journeys. In combination with Travel Assist, Emergency Assist (automatic braking and manoeuvring to the edge of the road until standstill) is now also introduced in the Crafter. New and standard in the Crafter with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tonnes (N2): a blind spot information system that alerts the driver to pedestrians and cyclists or scooter riders who are in the blind spot to the side of the vehicle when driving in urban traffic (0-30 km/h). Also new and standard for the models over 3.5 tonnes: a moving-off information system (informs the driver when moving off whether there are any pedestrians in front of the Crafter). This system can be ordered as an option for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes (N1).
new Crafter
The new Crafter gets a digital cockpit with a free-standing infotainment display that can be operated intuitively.

At the start of Crafter pre-sales, two TDI engines with an output of 103 kW or 130 kW, six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive will be available. Further drive variants – including versions with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and/or all-wheel drive and also with rear-wheel drive – will follow in the coming months. The body variants now available include the panel van with normal roof and two high-roof variants, two wheelbases and three vehicle lengths (6.0 to 7.4 metres), as well as the single-cab dropside and chassis models. Like its predecessor, the new Crafter offers a wide range of different body types: from closed panel vans to single and crew cabs as dropside and chassis models, as well as box bodies and tippers.

The prices of the new Crafter start in Germany at 44,440 euros (plus VAT) for the Crafter 35 panel van version with normal roof, 103 kW TDI engine and manual gearbox. Prices for the corresponding version with the 130 kW TDI engine start at 46,155 euros. The chassis with single cab starts at 41,545 euros (net). This means that the prices for the new model remain at the same level as those for its predecessor, despite significantly enhanced safety equipment and more convenience features. German dealers will start accepting orders from today, and the first deliveries will take place in the summer.
