2,000 drivers from 25 countries are set to take part in the 2019 Optifuel Challenge selection

Every two years, Optifuel Challenge, the Renault Trucks rational driving competition, attracts top international eco-drivers. For this fifth edition, 2,000 drivers from 25 countries are on the starting blocks, with the best driver from each country going forward to the international final due to take place in Lyon next October, in a bid to win the prize of a 2019 Renault Trucks T High.

Created in 2012 and focusing solely on eco-driving, the Optifuel Challenge embodies both Renault Trucks’ commitment to help drivers save fuel and its global vehicle-driver-services approach, by sustainably reducing fuel consumption from the very first kilometre.

Spring-summer 2019 – the national selections

2,000 drivers from 25 countries are set to take part in the 2019 Optifuel Challenge selections. Each country organises its own tests to select its top eco-driver.

These selections can be:

Regional selections, followed by a national final;

  • A single event involving the best eco-drivers of the country;
  • An assessment and ranking of drivers according to their Ecoscore, the Optifleet function designed to individually assess good driving and truck use.
  • The 24 finalists will then compete against each other at the international final in Lyon in October 2019.

Autumn 2019: the international final

The 24 finalists first complete a questionnaire to test their knowledge of eco-driving, before getting behind the wheel of one of the Renault Trucks T High 480 Maxispace, fitted with a Fuel Eco+ pack, provided for the competition. The driver able to best control fuel consumption, without sacrificing commercial speed, will win one of the trucks used in the competition.
