The new Multivan 6.1 has won the ‘autonis – Best Design Innovation 2019’ award in the ‘Vans’ category. The result of the readers’ poll run by motoring magazine AUTO MOTOR UND SPORT was unambiguous: 53.6 per cent of all participants voted for the latest generation of the cult van from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The design award was presented this evening in Stuttgart.
Head designer Albert Kirzinger said at the awards ceremony: “For me the Bulli is the squaring of the circle. Its design history is longer than that of any other vehicle. I think the secret to its success lies in the fact that we harmoniously combine contemporary styling with timeless design.” And precisely that applies also to the new Multivan 6.1, which is just now being launched in the first few markets. It is available for the first time with fully digital instruments, the ‘Digital Cockpit’. Also new: an online connectivity unit (OCU) for the infotainment systems, via which the Bulli 6.1 gains access to a new spectrum of web-based functions and services. A new steering system and numerous driver assistance systems further perfect the ride, ease of handling and safety.
About the ‘autonis – Best Design Innovation Award’: This is already the 14th year in which the prestigious competition has been run. This time a total of 100 new models were included in ten vehicle categories. Precisely 13,762 readers of AUTO MOTOR UND SPORT voted in the poll.
