Long service life, easy operation and favorable dimensions. Those were the criteria for transport company L. Bos Logistics bv at Schiphol, when purchasing ten new insulated air freight trailers. Bos opted for Talsons of the TAG ISO type. Characteristic of these trailers is the large interior height over the entire length of the trailer.
Air cargo trailers are used to transport so-called air cargo pallets (ULD’s), large platforms that fit in cargo planes. The transport from the loading point to the airport, and from the airport to the final destination, takes place by road. The air freight pallets (there are different types; usually four fit in a 13.60 meter long trailer) can be loaded up to three meters high.
David Fonseca, fleet manager of L. Bos Logistics, comments: “We drive with tractors with a fifth wheel height of 95 cm, so-called low-deck tractors. With these we can tow large-volume trailers. Within the legal standards, we have the maximum loading height with Talson trailers.”
The Talson TAG ISO trailers have a self-supporting aluminum body. This makes them light and strong. L. Bos has been driving Talson for decades. “There are several providers, but Talson is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of robustness,” compliments Fonseca. Other buying criteria are the problem-free roller conveyor built into the floor and the extensive options for access protection.
L. Bos Logistics opted for the insulated version (TAG ISO). The insulation ensures an even temperature and humidity in the cargo space, without the need for a cooling machine.
(In addition to the ten insulated trailers, Bos also purchased one FNA-certified refrigerated mega-trailer (Talson TAG FNA), also suitable for the transport of air freight pallets. These refrigerated semi-trailers have a Pharma certificate, making them suitable for the transport of e.g. medicines and vaccines.)
