In the collaborative DOLPHIN project (Development Original truck Lab for PHysical INtegration), Safety Tech is participating in the development of a laboratory vehicle featuring innovations for future-generation electric trucks.

In the collaborative DOLPHIN project (Development Original truck Lab for PHysical INtegration), Safety Tech is participating in the development of a laboratory vehicle featuring innovations for future-generation electric trucks. The aim is to assess the potential of technological innovations in terms of energy and environmental optimization, road user safety, ergonomics and on-board comfort. Production of the laboratory truck will start in spring 2024. 

The Dolphin project is led by Renault Trucks and supported by a consortium of industrial partners from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, including Safety Tech, Insavalor, Clermont-Auvergne University, Insa Lyon and Lamberet.

Safety Tech‘s role is to provide a camera-based rearview system with innovative features specific to the needs of the truck industry.

The Camera Monitor System (CMS) offered includes high-definition cameras and interior displays that provide optimized visibility and improved ergonomics. Compared with conventional mirrors, the CMS system covers a wider field of view, the interior displays eliminate glare, and automatic screen brightness adjustment ensures excellent visibility in all lighting conditions (tunnel entry and exit, low light, bad weather).

The CMS guarantees high image quality day and night, and a stable image in various driving environment (for example, no impacts from vehicle vibration).

Among other features, the solution will integrate solutions for classes 2, 4, 5 and 6, 270° vision, vulnerable road user (VRU) detection and driver alert systems, a driver monitoring system to manage VRU alerts and maintain driver attention, and new panning functions to facilitate forward and reverse maneuvers.

The CMS system proposed by Safety Tech will improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics, hence contributing to the truck’s energy and environmental optimization. It will also reduce driver fatigue and provide greater driving comfort, thus enhancing safety for road users.
