We’ve covered 100 thousand kilometers in real-world autonomous driving

Assuming a pioneering role in transforming public transport worldwide to electric and autonomous, Karsan continues to garner global recognition with its visionary approach, technology leadership, and customer-oriented service strategy. In this regard, being deemed worthy of the Company of the Year 2025 Award in the Minibus and Autonomous Transport category for Europe by the American consulting giant Frost & Sullivan has reinforced Karsan’s position that steers transformation in the sector. Karsan CEO Okan Baş said the following in his remarks on the subject: “As Karsan, we include not only a vehicle but also a vision in transportation. Today, we serve the cities of the future with over 2,000 electric vehicles in 27 countries on 3 continents. With our Autonomous e-ATAK model featuring Level 4 autonomous driving technology, we have covered 100,000 kilometers in real traffic conditions and carried over 35,000 passengers. This is not only an engineering feat but also a paradigm shift in public transport for safety, efficiency, and sustainability.”

Its e-JEST model has enabled Karsan, which has adapted to the narrow roads of European cities owing to its electric vehicle portfolio, to dominate the European electric minibus market for five consecutive years with a market share exceeding 37%. The Autonomous e-ATAK, featuring Level 4 autonomy, has accomplished numerous technological firsts with 13 projects across 12 countries, including being the first autonomous bus to pass through a tunnel. Karsan remains the first and only representative of this segment in Europe by offering not only autonomous solutions but also electric products ranging from 6-meter to 18-meter vehicles. The company, which entered the UK market with its right-hand drive e-JEST model as of November 2024, leaves its mark on the global success story of a Turkish brand that operates in a sphere spanning from Norway to Japan, from France to Canada. As of today, 82% of all electric public transport vehicles exported to Europe have been manufactured by Karsan.

It outperforms its competitors through maneuverability and comfort

Frost & Sullivan Analyst Saideep Sudhakar commented on the award and Karsan as follows: “The next wave of zero-carbon cities will focus on autonomous vehicles to address the critical challenges of improving safety and lowering operations costs. Karsan’s bus, Autonomous e-ATAK, provides zero emission transit and eliminates human errors in traffic. The vehicle detects road and environmental conditions on defined routes, removing the need for human control. It can also perform driverless operations, such as approaching stops; managing stop times, passenger boarding and alighting; and responding to intersections, crossings, and traffic lights. Karsan buses also outshine competitor brands in their compact design, high maneuverability, and passenger comfort. Its 60-year heritage in Türkiye’s minibüs market and extensive knowledge of European countries’transportation needs further contribute to its success in developing climate-friendly minibus products. Karsan manages the entire automotive value chain from R&D to production, marketing, sales, and after-sales activities, enabling it to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative products and services in the public transportation sector. Karsan’s heavy investments in distribution and after-sales services have ensured repeat orders from most European countries.
